Prayer Requests / Devotional – given by Maureen.
Approval of Minutes – Kelly DeSario motioned, Tracy Gabrielson 2nd to approve minutes from February 16th meeting.
Review of Budget – Question arose – as to why DELT has “Palms for Palm Sunday” in our budget? Nicci to ask Kelly Charlney – if it should be moved to Worship Team for 2013 year.

REVIEW:
Camp Sunday (02.19) –
Several people have contacted Stacie that are interested and planning to attend Camp this summer. Sign-up for best price is the end of March.
Leadership Retreat (02.25) -
Youth Sunday/Dessert Auction/Basket Raffle (03.11) –
Was a success for the first year! Approx $1500 was raised (see messenger for exact #s) Ways to improve next year were discussed… (External ticket sales, raise raffle ticket price, solicit local businesses for donations of raffle items). *Tracy has a cabin to donate a weekend stay for raffle
Discussion of Youth Sunday “rehearsal” for the speaking parts, service format, etc. Jr & Sr high kids to practice day before service. Elementary youth to arrive early the day of the service – to get their parts & instructions.
UCC Women’s Retreat –
Barb (Neal) Roose unavailable on 4/21 or 5/5 dates we selected. Perhaps fall 2012 or spring 2013 for us to try to coordinate again.
Safe Church Policy – Stacie sent a follow up e-mail to Gene Kraus.
FISH – 2012 2nd ½ of school year –
Stacie needs 1 teacher for 4/15 rotation. “Breakfast at the Beach” … please contact Stacie if you are able to help!!
Need teachers for Last rotation of the school year… please let Stacie know if you can help. (Jill offered to fill in – as needed, but couldn’t commit to full rotation)
New Business
Council Liaison -
Becky Weber sent Nicci a note to “officially” resign her position on the team as Council Liaison. We need to try to find someone who can attend BOTH DELT meeting (3rd Thursday of each month) AND the Council meeting (4th Thursday of the month). After discussion, our team members have busy schedules / families… no one volunteered.
Nicci to talk with Pastor Neal and Carl Skorepa about either a “rotation” person to attend, or if we do a better job at sharing Minutes with Council??
Palm Sunday (04.01) –
The youth will do a processional at that service. Stacie may need help getting palms ready.
Bible Sunday – DELT hosting Coffee Hour (04.15)
Tracy to e-mail out “sign-up-genius” to the team. DELTs will order cake(s) from Hawkins for both 9:00 and 10:30 services. (Stacie to talk with Stephanie on how she used to order in the past). Team will need to sign up for “fill-in” items – fruit, cheese, crackers, juice, etc, and sign-up for set up / clean up **keep an eye out for this e-mail from Tracy.**
Stacie to work on Bible book marks. She will contact helpers – if needed.
11 3rd Graders will be receiving their Bibles on Bible Sunday. Notes to be written by Kellie J or Nicci on behalf of the DELTs to each recipient. (Need list of names from Stacie)
LENTEN series – DELT hosting desserts 03.21
DELT team who are currently attending the series will provide desserts, set-up and clean up. Please plan to arrive by 6:15 for set-up.
Jen W – cookies, Kerri – Brownies, Kellie J – Fruit, Maureen – Brownies, Nicci – lemon bars, Jill – juice (will put in fridge), Jodi – pumpkin bread.
Celebration of Creation Planning
Mariah shared idea of combining Earth Day celebration with the Blessing of the Animals.
4/22 from 3:30 – 5:00pm. Hopefully nice weather – to hold event outside. There would be face-painting, an earth-day craft, Tree of leaves for blessings (using old bulletins – cut into leaf shapes), games, etc. 4:30- 5:00 would be the actual blessing of the animals. All pets would be welcome! (inside fellowship hall would be option for bad weather)
Youth Group Advisor Transition
Beth Starling will be leader of HS Youth Group for next school year.
Kevin Swantek will be leader of Middle School Youth Group
Would like to find additional person for each Youth Group Advisor “team”. Paul DeSario’s name was mentioned. Mariah to contact him and discuss that possibility.
Mother-Daughter Event
In lieu of “women’s retreat” – we are planning a Mother –Daughter event / Celebrating the Women (young and old) of our church. Date is scheduled for May 5th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
Mini-committee was formed of Stacie, Nicci, Maureen, Kerri and Kellie J to work through all details.
Stacie to put “Save the date” in the bulletin –with details to follow.
Ideas discussed: cake or cookie decorating contest, small mission project, mainly a “fellowship” event, and time for women to celebrate each other around Mother’s Day.
Data-base development
Tracy has started the development of an electronic data-base of all youth that could be used for e-mail correspondence, and would like to try out for VBS 2012 sign ups. Thanks to Tracy – for getting this started! (Finally!)
Stacie’s Time
VBS kit has arrived – “National Parks” theme.
“Outback Ray” – was mentioned to have at VBS ($225) – perhaps to have him on the last day of VBS. Stacie to talk with him about his availability and timing for a large group of kids.
Confirmation Sunday (May 6) – DELTs – NOT scheduled to host coffee hour.
Mariah’s Time
Confirmation Retreat is this weekend at Templed Hills (Friday evening thru Sunday morning)
Elementary Youth Group Talent show is this coming Sunday (3/18) – 5:00pm
Middle School Youth Group fundraisers:
Making Easter candy and selling after church services.
Whole-Church dinner – youth would provide entertainment and serving. Work with Supper-Club to hopefully plan / provide meal. Date scheduled for 4/29 around 5:30 / 6:00 pm. Discussion of confirmation class schedule to be re-organized… so 4/29 would not be an extremely LONG day for the youth.
17 are planning to go to Hiram Farm. 4 adults and 13 kids. Mariah already made van reservations, and she will plan to drive her own car with “gear” to Hiram.
8 or 9 youth have signed up for Overlook Farm trip. UCC had to pay for 16 people – there are 4 Youth Group advisors currently, plus Beth Starling (Advisor-to-be) and Elyse will be attending.

Operation Christmas Child Review over 100 boxes were put together and received by our congregation
Candlelight Walk Bake Sale – $ raised – need to confirm with Kelly
Advent Family Fun Night – about 75 people attended. Loved the Advent calendar craft, plus cookie decorating and circle of caring craft.
Holiday Movie Night – low turn out – no one from Let’s Make a Difference (transportation and communication were a problem)
Christmas pageant review
FISH 2011 – 2012 school year – need teachers for 1/29;
V. New Business:
UCC Women’s retreat – late Jan or Early February. Kellie to check with Barb Roose from Toledo church – to be guest speaker. Mission project could be same as last year for Let’s Make a Difference women (hygiene kits). Would like to invitee First Christian Church to join us. Subject idease– Women’s spiritual goal setting / new beginnings. Use recipe cards for Ice-breaker.
Souper Bowl Sunday 2/5 – congregation to bring $1 and a can of soup with them to church.
Camp Sunday 2/19 – Speaker coming for children’s sermon. “Scholarships” to be provided by DELTs and World Friendship board. All “campers” to notify Stacie if they will be attending.
Youth Sunday / Dessert and basket auction – 3/11. DELTs to put together a “rainy-day” activity basket of goodies to be auctioned. Encourage educational items to go in that basket. Please get donated items to Kellie Johns by March 4th.
Discussed the idea of a “secret pal” / candy-Gram / “boo” someone as a fundraiser for the youth – and a way to connect older and younger generations in the church. Suggested to move this to the Fall.
Reviewed 2011 Team Roster for 2012. Stephanie Manhoff to step down from team. Add Kerri Black and Laurie Morgan to the Team. Nicci Avalon to be next Team Leader.
VI. Stacey’s Time –
Women of Faith – CD series to be previewed at next DELT Meeting. Possibly begin a new Women’s group to watch and discuss these CDs.
FISH – coffee hour to be hosted THIS coming Sunday by 2nd and 3rd graders.
VBS 2012 – theme to be either Olympics (since it’s an Olympic year) or National Parks (Series from Gospel Light)
VII. Mariah’s Time –
Game night was fun – thank you to all who participated and helped.
Middle School trip to Hiram – 1st week in June. Fund raisers: Fair Trade sales; make Easter Candy during Youth Group; 4/29 Church dinner / gourmet club to help.
High School trip to Overlook in Massachusetts – hands-on training & service trip. Fund raisers: Basket / Dessert auction on Youth Sunday; Valentine’s night – babysitting service from 6 – 8:30pm.
Lenten Series – 3 educational opportunities – Reconcilliation, the Jesus I never knew & Families set free. Help needed from DELTs to promote these educational programs to all! Children’s program will be available for our youth.
April 29th – “Visit your own church” – Sunday where we visit / try another service within our own church. Need to discuss how to handle FISH that day.
Blessing of the Animals / Earth Day combination event on 4/22 (Earth Day) which would remind us to celebrate Creation.

Gathering meeting: Jen Wilder attended meeting with Gathering reps; they still want FISH (Sunday School) provided but can’t provide teachers

Discussion of Youth Group dinner service: is it necessary? Do kids eat? Consensus was that it’s nice to offer dinner, we could post the planned menu in the bulletin, kids who don’t want to eat that can either pack their own meal or come at 5:30

We welcomed three confirmands to our meeting: Logan Yates, Nick Manhoff & Jacob Herrold.
Upon review of the budget, we discussed three line items we’d like to add to our budget 1)small budget ($100) for Youth Group Advisor Support fund; 2) $100 for Let’s Make A Difference VBS program; 3)$1000 for Summer Camp Scholarships (raise funds through fundraiser or special offering on Camp Sunday)
Mission 1 Project: FISH kids will collect 111 boxes of cereal
Crop Walk raised $400+
FISH: need volunteers to teach for the next rotation: Nov 20 & 27, Dec 3 & 18

Board of Christian Education Meeting – August 14, 2011 - Minutes
Following our call to order, a brief devotion and prayer led by Stacie Yates, we discussed and approved both the August minutes and our monthly budget.
Old Business discussions included:
Safe Church Policy – Stacie emailed to Gene Kraus, he responded with comments, she will email to DELT board for review;
Youth Group – Meal Coordinator for 2011-2012 School year – Jill will still do? Will assign dates to parents & DELT volunteers
UCC Council Meeting: Kellie Johns gave an overview of discussions at the Council Meeting
Alive on the Square review – jumphouse was great; no bees at picnic; ponies never showed for some reason; may need kids’ ‘keep busy’ packs for during service – too hard to structure a lesson/ program for that many kids outdoors
New Business discussions included:
FISH – 2011-2012 – school year
Teachers – Shepherds needed – Teachers covered for first rotation, still seeking shepherds; need both teachers & shepherds for later rotations; discussion followed of possible people to ask to serve in this way
Rally Day – 9/18 – conclusion of Dr Seuss unit with Butter Battle Booksnack & craft to go with the theme of the book
UCC Women’s Retreat – ideas for possible themes: Prayer; Making spiritual goals? Tentatively scheduled for Jan 21st *
Crop Walk – 9/25 & 10/2 collect pledges; walk is on 10/2; see more below…
Mission One – 11-11-11 – Youth will conduct a cereal collection for food pantry - 11/1 – 11/13 – announce on 10/30; have 11-year-olds make announcement?
First Christian Church’s Retreat 9/17 (9:30a – 7pm) ‘help exchange’ – not needed after all (they cancled due to low sign-up); they will still help us if needed
All Church Hayride – 10/23 Boyert’s Barn – help needed to donate food items, Tammy will organize donation sign-up via e-vite
Operation Christmas Child – Oct 16 is due date for supplies to go in boxes; completed boxes due Nov 20th;
Mariah’s Time:
Youth Group: finding something for high schoolers to do; need a leader to lead
High school FISH: Communion Sunday HSers will help with service; other Sundays they have class or help with younger FISH
Confirmation Class 2011-2012 – 10 out of 11 came
Preaching Workshop Nov. 12th - 11-3 with lunch – open to everyone!
CROP Walk – Oct 2nd ; meet at Methodist church @ 1:30 – walk, then return to church around 3:15 for snack & educational game, focus on ‘water’
High school youth – mentorship/sponsor program – focus less on financial help and more on spiritual help (meet for coffee, pray for them, etc.)
Correction Officer thank you notes – need people to take cards and write a note to them!

Discipleship & Education Team :
The DELT team met on Tuesday, August 16th instead of our usual 3rd Thursday meeting day. After prayer & devotional time and approval of the month’s budget, we discussed: Safe Church Policy (hopefully to be approved at Sept meeting?), Youth Group Meal Coordinator duties, VBS review, review of both Middle School & High School Youth Work Camps, our participation a joint VBS for for Let’s Make A Difference kids (overall successful but with a few kinks to work out if we do again next year; Stacie will be meeting with coordinators from other churches to review); Let’s Make A Difference Kandyland, summer FISH (everyone – kids and teachers – like the Dr Seuss theme).
As we look forward to the upcoming fall season, we discussed planning for FISH: Rally Day (opening day) Sept 18th; Alive on the Square – we need to help supervise bouncy house, other activities; Leadership Team meeting 8/28; we will be helping First Christian Church with their women’s retreat on 9/17 by serving a meal & clean up; they will return the favor at a future date for us; All Church Hayride coming up 10/23 at Boyert’s; Empty Bowl mission coming in April; starting generating ideas for our own Women’s Retreat – possibly late Fall, focus on Spiritual Goal-setting; offer stations around the church with craft, yoga, speaker?; a few changes for upcoming Youth Group season : High School youth meeting changes (1x/ month for dinner somewhere, plus 1 church event each month); Middle School Youth seeking Mission Trip ideas, adding a few new activities.
Our team mission continues to grow in so many ways. We seek anyone who would like join us for any or all this year’s exciting Christian Discipleship and Education events ! Just ‘knock and the door…’ is open
