I can’t believe that it is time to start thinking about Vacation Bible School already!
We are busy looking at things and planning the week. The theme this year is Son Rise National Park. Registration will begin soon and I am starting the process of looking for volunteers to help. CELEBRATION OF CREATION!
Celebration of Creation
Come join us on Sunday April 22nd at 3:30 for our first Celebration of Creation! This is a family event celebrating Earth Day and our call as Christians to honor God’s creation by caring for the earth. From 3:30 until 4:30, we will share earth-friendly games and crafts. Then at 4:30 our Elementary Youth will lead a Blessing of the Animals. Be sure to bring your parakeets and giraffes, your collies and your three-toed sloths! Families are welcome to bring photographs of pets who are deceased or who are not able to attend to the service. A special offering will be collected to benefit Heifer International.

Join us in celebrating Youth Sunday on March 11th. This service is one of the year’s most memorable worship experiences, as the youth and children of the church lead us in giving glory to God.
March 11th we will have one, unified service at 10:30 am.

SMALL GROUP LENTEN STUDIES

6:45 pm Dessert – 7:00 Small Group Study
We offer 3 unique and different small group studies on Wednesday evenings during Lent. One group focuses on parenting and families; another on communication and relationships; and the third is a Bible Study and reflection on the person of Jesus. We begin with dessert and opening prayer at 6:45 pm in the Fellowship Hall and then break out into our groups. Activities are provided for children, so please let us know the names and ages of your children.

Families Set Free
In our culture, our sense of worth often comes from our accomplishments. As Christians, we discover that our true worth comes from being loved by God. If your family is busy, talented and stressed-out, if you know well the challenges and pressures of achievement, come join us as we get set free! This workshop-style program features five topics: time, grades, Sabbath-taking, winning in arts & sports, and fear turning into faith. (By the way, if you think you’re too busy to join us, this program is for you.)
The Cow in the Parking Lot
Angry?! Well sure you are! There’s a LOT to be angry about! Grrrrr! How’s that working for you? Maybe you’d be interested in dialing some of that anger back a bit.
Join our Lenten Reading Group as it explores “The Cow in the Parking Lot – A Zen Approach to Overcoming Anger” by Scheff & Edmiston.
This interactive book challenges readers about their beliefs about their anger and suggests there are other choices. The reading group will discuss those choices and how they can help us on our path to become better Christians.
The Jesus I Never Knew
What is your image of Jesus? A pious goodie-goodie? A hot-headed revolutionary? A good buddy and friend? Using clips from classic Jesus movies, this study will compare some of our common stereotypes of Jesus with the image of Jesus that emerges from the Scriptures. The Jesus that we get to know may be very different from the Jesus we learned about in Sunday School.

HOBBY HORSE PRESCHOOL
Registration 2012-2013
Hobby Horse Preschool is our church owned preschool that provides an age-appropriate, child-centered education in a loving Christian environment. We seek to foster the development of the whole child by facilitating growth—socially, physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually.
Registration for the 2012-2013 school year begins on Friday, January 20. Families who are members of UCC Medina or associated with our church have the opportunity to register prior to January 20. If you are interested in a tour of our school or in registering a child please contact our Director of Preschool, Vicki Marty at 330-722-1445.
