Review Schedule

We reviewed the preaching/coordinating schedule for now through November 20th.  Changes (preacher switch) were made for the October 23rd and November 6th services.

New Worship Series Ideas

Mariah shared theme ideas for the Advent Sundays which focus on ‘waiting.’  We read selected scripture from Isaiah, Mark, and Psalm which would spread over the four Sundays.
Andy shared people volunteering to share how they waited for something sometime throughout 2011.  It was suggested that this would be spread throughout the Advent Sundays.
Mariah asked everyone to start thinking about the next worship series starting in January.  One possible topic is ‘Heroes throughout the Bible.’

New Worship Series Schedule

The schedule is set through January 1st, please see attached schedule.  Please send any changes to Mariah and Andy (until November 1st) as they arise.

New Business

Still Speaking on the Square will feature Leila in the next issue.
Mariah is hosting a preaching workshop on November 12th from 11am to 3pm and includes lunch with free-will offering.
Miki will be hosting a fundraising recital in the Sanctuary November 12th at 8pm which may include dinner.
Kevin suggested that a sound check be done before the services.  This is to make sure every microphone that should be on is on and sound good.
Amanda and Andy will be staying the area for the time being.  However, Andy accepted a new job that requires working all but one Saturday a month and shifts with unknown ending times.  Andy is resigning from the team and the position of scribe will need to be filled starting with the November 5th meeting.  Also, Andy will be resigning from his worship team rep position.  This will leave both of the 9:00 rep positions on that team open.  At least one of these spots needs to be filled.  Val Cervenak, Julie Magier, and Mary Ann Blosser are possible people to approach about filling these spots.  Finally, Andy is also looking for someone to take over the JMM spot at the Medina County Home.  The services are on the third Sunday of every other month at 2pm.  The next service is Sunday, November 20 at 2pm.  Anybody who is interested in filling this spot should talk to Nick North.
An all church event, Mission: 1, was discussed briefly by Mariah. This will be taking place the first 11 days of November.  Details about this event will be mentioned in the coming weeks.  More details about the event can be found at:  http://www.ucc.org/mission1/

Old Business

Mariah discussed the preparation of the September 18th service.  Sandy Behler is working on typing up and printing out Jen’s testimony.
Ruth discussed the idea of having lay people preach for the 8:15 and 10:30 services because the 9:00 service should not be the only service where lay people can preach.
The quality of the preaching and involvement throughout the Gathering’s history was discussed.  Creativity in the preaching has dwindled over time.  Preaching should be done to share God’s Word/grace and not to build one’s ego.

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be Saturday, November 5th at 11am at Renae Armstrong’s house which is located at 840 Shorewood Drive in Medina.  It will feature a potluck lunch.  This will be a ‘vision’ meeting.
