Medina United Church of Christ
and Second Baptist Church
Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 10:00 am
Lunch, Games and Horse Rides follow
We gather with Second Baptist at the gazebo on the square for a unified worship service. The theme for the worship is “All the People” as we celebrate God’s extravagant love for all people. The Medina UCC Chancel Choir and Gathering Band will join with the Second Baptist Combined Choir for special music. Come early, grab your name tag, remember some lawn chairs, and invite your neighbors and family to come along with you.
Following worship we gather under the tent on the church lawn for a delicious meal prepared by the Kiwanis. We will enjoy Christian fellowship, games, horse rides.
In addition to this event…we are collecting non-perishable food items for Medina County Hunger Task Force.
“Alive on the Square” will be the only worship service for Medina UCC on September 14th.

Manpower Needed… The Board of Trustees has purchased roofing materials in order to replace the leaking roof on the maintenance garage. Bruce Bauer has volunteered to be the foreman for this project but we are in need of volunteers. We have not set an exact date, probably a weekend in early October.

WHERE ARE OUR- NOAH’S ARK BUILDERS???
No, this is not the great flood of Noah’s time, but the people of our own Midwest are suffering great pain and loss on all levels just the same. They need OUR assistance!
A call has gone out from the Church of the Brethren and the UCC in response to the Rushford, MN floods. They are currently working on some new builds and will be in need of additional help. They have committed to building 6 new homes. The hope/plan is that these homes could be completed by the end of calendar year 2008. Medina UCC has tentatively signed up for the week of October 19 – 25th. The work week begins with volunteers arriving on Sunday afternoon, working all week and leaving on Saturday morning. There will be no expense for volunteers while working at the project.
Please search your hearts. We will need prayers, construction talents of all kinds (painters, drywallers, carpenters, electricians, and yes… go-fers
, and financial support.
This is another way in which we seek to live out our Christian Mission of ‘Serving Others’.
Yeah, so the waters haven’t flooded our homes… but the families in Minnesota need the Medina UCC ‘Ark Builders’ to help ‘Lift Them Up…!’ PLEASE Sign up in the Church Office and/or contact Dave Weber – NOW!

MEDITATION by Cynthia Hankin
Worry distracts us from the Glory of the Life our Creator has given us. We don’t even notice the birds singing, blue skies, starlight…we can’t see any of those things when our faces are all scrunched up with worry. We have to turn and put our worries into the Creator’s hands, because they are just too heavy for us to carry alone. In Matthew 6 verses 25-34 the advice given to use is to “Let today’s own trouble be sufficient for the day, tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” Being anxious does not add anything to our life; not quality, or time, or careful thought. Even the founding fathers of America knew that. Ben Franklin said, “do not anticipate troubles or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight”. Remember that as it says in Matthew 19: 26-“but with God, all things are possible.”
