CARDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND THANKS
Imagine a day at work where you are frequently – usually daily — tested and challenged by incarcerated people whose lives have jumped the tracks.
These necessary services provided by Correction Officers at the Medina County Jail are rarely acknowledged, yet their work is vital for the smooth operation of the jail and the safety of our community.
“Both Sides of Prison:  Do You Have Chain-Breaking Faith” Team is conducting a card-sending campaign to offer words of encouragement and appreciation to individual officers from now through September 25. A few hand-written words can make a huge difference in a person’s life and those around that person. Along with the cards, we encourage you to hold our Correction Officers in your prayers.
Please stop by the table in the East Room to write a card.

YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF
If you are in third through twelfth grade, come be part of our Youth Group kick-off celebration at the church today, September 18.
We’ll have a pizza party at 5:00 pm followed by Youth Group from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm. All youth and friends are welcome! If you have any questions about Youth Group, please contact Pastor Mariah.

NEW MEMBER CLASSES
Would you like to become a member of our church family? Join us for our new member classes that will begin on October 9th.
We have changed the structure for the classes. The first class will be held on October 9th and the second class will be held on October 23rd. New members will join the church on November 6th.
Please contact the church office at 330-725-4559 no later than October 3rd if you are interested.
CIRCLE OF CARING MEETING
Wednesday, September 28
1:30 pm in the East Room
All members and anyone who would like to find out more about Circle of Caring, please come and share refreshments and ideas for growing our outreach.
What is Circle of Caring? It is a group of friendly people who enjoy calling on older members and friends of the church. ” We are called to live our Christian faith daily, loving God, growing spiritually and serving others”. Mathew 22:36-39

100 WOMEN IN RED
Second Baptist Church (451 Bronson Street, Medina) is hosting “100 Women in Red” on Sunday, September 18, at 4:00 pm. This special worship service is based upon 1 Peter 1:18-19 and the transforming power of the blood of Jesus Christ, shed for our sins.
Please join Carolyn Sadler in attendance, and wear red. Speakers will include Senesa Peterson (Fellowship Baptist Church), Sherril “Bing” Rundle, Barb Milioni (First Baptist Church of Medina) and Mary Springer (Second Baptist Church of Medina).

NEIGHBORS IN NEED
The Neighbors in Need offering will be held on October 2, 2011 and supports the UCC’s ministries of justice and compassion throughout the U.S.    Two thirds of the offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to fund an array of local and national justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects.   This Ministry advocates for issues such as the federal budget, voting rights, immigration, health care, hate crimes, civil liberties and environmental justice.    The other one third of the offering supports the UCC’s Council for American Indian Ministries.  Today there are 20 UCC congregations on reservations and one urban, multi-tribal UCC congregation in Minneapolis.    These churches and their pastors are supported by this offering.
Neighbors in Need helps make another world possible and needs your support.   Contributions to Neighbors in need can also be made on-line at any time at: www.ucc.org/nin.

MEDITATION Carl Skorepa

10. It’s hard to hang onto a smooth rope. God puts knots in our cord so we can have a place to hold on.
9. When I feel blue in my soul, it’s because I have not understood that prayer is the breath of the Christian.
8. I cannot live my life for another’s agenda. My greatest test will be to discern God’s agenda from my own.
7. If Jesus never hurried, I don’t have to.
6. God doesn’t need my ability. He desires availability. My greatest mission is submission to Him.
5. God doesn’t want to resurface my life and make it smoother. He wants to dig it up, make it new, and change directions.
4. When I work to control my life, I get further behind in following Jesus.
3. Life is not about reaching my dreams and goals, it’s about discovering God’s plan and purpose.
2.  Faith is not understanding everything God is doing. Faith is trusting that what he is doing is good and will result in glory to him.
1. There is no problem, no diagnosis, no hurt or pain or mountain that is bigger than God.
